I’d like to use his opportunity to share some of my impressions of Taiwan and tell you some stories that I might not have mentioned in previous posts.

One of the first things I noticed about Taiwan was how curteous and polite the people were. And the second thing? They always have a smile. OK, not ALWAYS but a lot more than what I am used to in Germany. It’s such a pleasant change to the norm. Even if they don’t have a clue what I am saying, they still smile. And they always return a smile. 🙂
7-11 is apparently very successful in Taiwan, seeing that there is literally at least two 7-11s on every block. The 7-11s are amazing; you can buy food, soup, hot dogs, toiletries, candy, water, beer, minutes for your mobiles, and you can pay electricity bills there, AND buy train tickets. Plus, the coffee is not all that bad. No slurpees though.
As far as I could tell, the Taiwanese are also pretty orderly. They wait in line until it’s their turn, especially to get into the metro/train. There is no pushing or shoving. They also are attached to their mobiles.
I don’t know what it’s like to drive a car there, since I was usually on a scooter. But you can basically go anywhere on a scooter since there is a special scooter lane on the highway. Very practical, and safer, I might add.
I dropped Thom off at work one day and had to ride the scooter home by myself. On the way to Thom’s work, I tried to take mental pictures of street names and names of stores, or anything that could help me find my way back. But that proved to be very difficult since I can’t read or understand anything. But its not even that I can’t understand or read, the characters are not even close to the block letters we use, so as a safety measure, Thom gave me his “cheat sheet” which has his address written in Mandarin. That way, I could just show people the piece of paper and they could point me in the right direction. Thankfully, it was not necessary, it might have been an interesting adventure though!

I will close this post with pictures of moments and memories I’ve captured in Taiwan. Sorry, there are no captions for the pictures. I don’t have enough time to rename all the images.
Enjoy and thank you for reading!
