We have finally arrived in Bali! But because the flight to Bali was overbooked, there was a chance that I would get bumped to a later flight. And since Thomas and I flew on different carriers, he would have had to wait longer for me at the airport. Hong Kong Airlines offered me cash and food vouchers if I got bumped and just for agreeing, they would upgrade me if I end up taking the same flight. That’s exactly what happened! Wooohooo! 🙂 So luckily, Thomas didn’t have to wait too long and I flew in style!
From the airport in Denpasar, take a metered taxi! Don’t bother negotiating prices with the others, you will always end up paying more!
Once in Bali, Thomas and I met up with friends from Hamburg, Tobi and Martita. We would be spending the next few days with them.

Our first destination was to spend a few days in Nusa Ceningan at Le Pirate Beach Club. This mini resort is on a little island which belongs to the group of islands called Lembongan. That all sounds quite nice (and instagram has awesome pictures of the resort) but it is a pain in the butt to get there. First, you gotta get to Sanur Beach to catch either a local or speed boat to get to Mushroom Bay, once there, you have to catch a ride to the Yellow Bridge, then walk across the bridge and arrange another ride to the resort. Puh. So if you go, only bring the bare necessities and what you need and don’t forget your swim suit. Plus, the rooms are minuscule, so there is no room for luggage bigger than a backpack or carry on anyways.

We personally felt like 2 nights was plenty there, even though it was a hassle getting there. If you want to get away and have some peace and quite, then is the right place.
We spent most of our time at or in the pool, it was so hot to do anything else, but there is not much else to do on the island anyhow. The small infinity pool is nice and overlooks the water and seaweed farms. You have a nice glimpse of the average working day of the farmers. It is a bit weird looking at all those hard workers while chilling out in a somewhat luxury resort. Activities like snorkeling is available. A bit pricey, but worth it. So many fish and the coral reef is beautiful, especially in Crystal Bay! You can also rent a scooter and check out other beaches on the island and go swimming.
There is a restaurant at the Beach Club, delicious but pricey. There are, however, local restaurants (warung) close to the hotel.
Writing this and thinking back on Nusa Ceningan, we should have rented a scooter and explored a little…but I guess we were lazy. But I suppose it’s all relative, isn’t it? We didn’t see or do much, but still enjoyed our time there and definitely a good break after all the activities in Hong Kong and we were then ready to see the rest of Bali!
