Matobo National Park

Matobo National Park , also known as Matopos National Park, is a national park close to Bulawayo. This is perfect since you can stop in the city to pick up food and other necessities before continuing on to Matobo.

Wild animals can be found in the park, but this was not the reason for our visit. The park has interesting rock formations, and we were intrigued.

We spent the night at a lodge close to the park, a place called Farmhouse. It looked all fancy and stuff, but they also have camping. We opted for camping because we heard that the view is unbeatable (plus the electricity was down anyway). The camp is on a cliff overlooking the whole park, and we were the only ones there. 🙂 It was a bit windy at night, it felt like the tent was going to blow away….but the view, the view. Unbeatable!

The next day, we got in the car and took a drive through the park to see what these parks are really all about. The rock formations are all naturally formed, really amazing. They are everywhere in the park.

We really didn’t see as many animals as Hwange, but there was a few running around here and there….

There are also many archaeological sites at the park: rock art caves dating 6,000 to 10,000 years ago. We went to Nswatugi. The drive was a bit scary, there are short cuts, but we were not familiar with those, so we took the adventurous route. Don’t drive there unless you have a 4 wheel drive, please!!
